Mutomba Retires
Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo, if your like me, you probably can't pronounce that name. Well here's a name you may be more farmilar with, Dikembe Mutombo. A man who is truly a gentle giant, and most notable as a NBA star. The 7ft 2in Mutombo played 18 years in the NBA, and was a 4-time Defensive Player of the Year(titled for most all-time with Ben Wallace), 8-time All-Star, and blocked more than 3200 shots(2nd all-time to Hakeem Olajuwon). Although Mutombo's accomplishments on the court were impressive, what he did off court is an even bigger testament to his character. He is a well-known humanitarian around the world, especially to his native land, the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is one of my favorite NBA players and also one of my favorite persons ever. Dikembe was sidelined recently after suffering a knee against the Portland Blazers. My only wish that he recovers soon and return to play one more game and go out on top.
